The Department of Medicine of
the American Hospital of Paris
is staffed by 80 senior physicians
from all medical specializations.

Our doctors are available at all times throughout the year and can be mobilized 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, thereby guaranteeing seamless continuity of care. They offer individualized patient service by personally taking full responsibility for the care delivered to their patients. By virtue of their medical practice within the American Hospital, they have access to outstanding diagnostic and testing services, highly professional health care staff and an environment that enables a large degree of cross-disciplinarity.

The Department of Medicine of the American Hospital is placed under the responsibility of  Dr Serge Dard, Chief of Service.

Dermatology

Our dermatologists provide treatment of:

  • Common dermatologic diseases including eczema, psoriasis, acne, skin infections, toxidermia and bullous dermatoses.
  • Benign and malignant skin tumors: nevi (moles), melanomas, seborrheic keratoses, actinic keratoses, basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, cutaneous lymphomas.

They also partake in the treatment of general diseases with dermatologic symptoms (such as lupus or vasculitis).

Emergencies are handled 24/7 (on-call dermatologist), in coordination with the hospital’s Emergency Department.

Endocrinology Diabetology

Our endocrinologists provide treatment of:

  • Endocrine diseases such as those affecting the thyroid and parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pituitary gland and sexual glands.
  • Metabolic diseases such as diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia and hyperuricemia

They also help in the treatment of obesity, eating disorders and gestational diabetes.

Through the American Hospital’s diagnostics and testing services, specific investigational exams can be performed on site (ultrasound, scintigraphy and fine needle aspiration of the thyroid), and diabetes-related complications, including emergencies, can also be treated (hemodialysis, interventional cardiology, etc.).

Emergencies are handled 24/7 (on-call endocrinologist), in coordination with the hospital’s Emergency Department.

Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Proctology Unit

The Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Proctology Unit provides treatment for diseases affecting the:

  • Digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, colon, small intestine)
  • Hepatic ducts, pancreas and liver
  • Anus and rectum

The Endoscopy Center of the American Hospital performs diagnostic procedures on site (fiberoptic endoscopy of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum; colonoscopy; enteroscopy; endoscopic ultrasound) as well as interventional endoscopic procedures making it possible to treat many digestive and liver diseases without surgery.

Emergencies are handled 24/7 (on-call gastroenterologist and endoscopist), in coordination with the hospital’s Emergency Department.

Internal Medicine

Internists are specialized in the practice of general medicine. Their role is to:

  • Coordinate complex diagnoses by consolidating the work of the other specialists involved
  • Or personally treat patients suffering from complex diseases (infectious, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases) while consulting their colleagues specializing in these disciplines

Thanks to the American Hospital’s particularly large and responsive diagnostics and testing service and the on-site presence of physicians in all specializations, our internists can establish an accurate diagnosis within a very short time frame and offer patients the most appropriate therapy.

Our internists also contribute to the seamless continuity of care offered by the American Hospital by ensuring on-call service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Nephrology Unit

The Nephrology Unit offers comprehensive care including diagnosis, outpatient and inpatient consultations, and patient follow-up focusing on prevention and health education.

When necessary, the existence of our on-site Dialysis Center, which is conventionné, enables patients to be cared for by the same medical team.

Neurology Unit

The Neurology Unit provides diagnosis and treatment for diseases of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles.

It has all the necessary equipment to conduct neurological functional investigations, including electroencephalograms and electromyograms (EMG).

Oncology Unit

The Oncology Unit treats cancer patients at every step of their disease: diagnosis, choice of therapy, medical and/or surgical treatment, post-therapeutic follow-up.

The unit features an ambulatory chemotherapy service. This service is conventionné, meaning it applies the fee schedule established by the French national health insurance (Assurance Maladie).

Pulmonology Unit

The Pulmonology Unit provides screening and treatment for chronic and acute respiratory diseases as well as lung tumors. It also offers consultations for allergies and sleeping disorders.

It offers highly comprehensive pulmonary diagnosis and testing services, including pulmonary functional investigations and bronchial endoscopy.

Psychiatry Unit

The Psychiatry Unit offers psychiatric consultations by appointment to treat psychological and psychosomatic illnesses.

A psychiatrist from the Unit specializing in child psychiatry offers consultations for children and adolescents.
