It is now possible to measure minute doses of cardiac troponin T (cTnT) in the blood, at levels 10 times lower than those detected using standard methods. This test was carried out in more than 3,500 patients aged 30 to 65. Patients with a high level of cTnT had increased risks of cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes. This approach merits further testing on a larger number of subjects, but is certainly a promising detection test.
