Maternité

Pregnancy and childbirth, though often idealized, can be a difficult experience for future parents, in up to three out of ten cases. This has serious consequences for couples and may lead to post-traumatic stress disorder and depression in mothers. A negative birth experience with lasting effects on the parents has been proven to influence the child’s brain development.
Armed with this knowledge, maternity professionals must prevent these situations by providing support to parents before, during and after pregnancy.

RESPECTFUL CARE TRAINING FOR ALL MATERNITY HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

The training seminar was created by Professor Israël Nisand, former president of the French National College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (CNGOF), and Dr. Amina Yamgnane, an obstetrician at the American Hospital of Paris.

Our ambition is to disseminate respectful care practices not just among our teams, but to all maternity professionals in France. Every year, the program will enable more than 300 midwives, gynecologists, obstetricians, pediatricians, nurses’ aides, pediatric nurses’ aides, anesthesiologists and child psychiatrists to receive free training by leading experts in the prevention of obstetrical and gynecological violence.

In 2023, the American Hospital of Paris auditorium will host three eight-hour sessions on respectful care, open to maternity professionals on a volunteer basis. In 2024, an e-learning solution will be rolled out to make this essential training available to an even wider audience. Thanks to these seminars, tomorrow more than 300,000 women will benefit from respectful care during their pregnancy and routine gynecological care.
