Support Medical Innovation in Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology is an image-guided, minimally invasive surgical technique. Thanks to recent technological progress, this specialty can now be used to examine and treat most organs using procedures that are virtually scarless. The American Hospital of Paris’s interventional radiology team is currently developing this exciting and innovative medical specialty. Help us ensure its continued growth.

Interventional Radiology Experts

The American Hospital of Paris immediately sought to use interventional radiology to its full potential by recruiting top specialists in the field and building awareness in patients. Today, interventional radiology is reaping the benefits of our Hospital’s multidisciplinary approach, which ensures access to the clinical skills necessary to meet patients’ pre- and postoperative needs. Interventional radiology is currently undergoing significant growth, driven by the American Hospital of Paris’s ambition to become France’s leading center in this discipline.

Technological and Human Prowess

During an interventional radiology procedure, radiologists have real-time access to all of the information they need thanks to imaging techniques including X-ray, CT scan, MRI and ultrasound. On seeing the organ, they can identify the area to be treated and determine the safest route of access, which is often through the vessels. With interventional radiology, the doctor detects the tumor and inserts a needle to physically eliminate or destroy it using extreme heat or cold. The organ itself is totally spared, the patient is permanently cured and the function of the affected organ is preserved for the remainder of the patient’s life. The images also enable the interventional radiologist to keep a close eye on any at-risk structures, such as a small nearby artery which may be causing complications.

As demonstrated by these images of a uterine fibroid embolization procedure, a wide array of conditions can be treated, including prostate adenomas, pelvic varicose veins and osteoarthritis.

Undeniable Patient Benefits

Interventional radiology most certainly represents the future of medicine. For patients, the numerous benefits – low risk of complications, quicker recovery time, shorter hospital stay, and no scar – mean they can usually return to their normal activities the very next day. Most of all, interventional radiology preserves the patient’s quality of life.

“Not only do our patients generally appreciate these minimally invasive techniques, but we, as practitioners, are thrilled about the feats we can accomplish, including operations that don’t leave a scar! What’s wonderful is being able to treat an increasingly wide range of diseases. All medical and surgical specialties are exploring the ways interventional radiology can be used. These new techniques have a cost, but their potential is simply amazing. The entire team joins me in thanking in advance all of those who choose to support these groundbreaking practices.”
