THE AMERICAN HOSPITAL OF PARIS REVOLUTIONIZES ASSISTED REPRODUCTIVE TECHNOLOGY WITH AI
WHEN AI TRANSFORMS ASSISTED REPRODUCTIVE TECHNOLOGY
Overview
The American Hospital of Paris, a leading French provider of assisted reproductive technology (ART) with more than 2,300 in-vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures annually, is revolutionizing the discipline through the use of AI-powered in-vitro fertilization (AIVF). This innovation is expected to divide by half the number of cycles necessary to conceive, marking a major technological breakthrough in fertility.
The American Hospital of Paris: Pioneering in ART for 40 Years
A Unique Legacy of Innovation in France
Created in 1984, the ART center of the American Hospital of Paris has played a key role in the history of assisted reproductive technology in France. The Hospital was one of the first European centers to use ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), now a standard fertilization technique across the globe. The first birth in France resulting from ICSI took place at the American Hospital of Paris.
France’s Undisputed Leader in ART
The latest figures illustrate this excellence. In 2024, the American Hospital of Paris performed more than 1,750 egg retrieval procedures and more than 2,400 embryo transfers, making it the national leader in the number of ART procedures performed. The unit has a team of 26 gynecologists and gynecological surgeons, three uroandrologists and a laboratory staffed by two specialist biologists and one engineer. More than 800 births or pregnancies underway in 2024 resulted from procedures performed at the Hospital.
Certified Excellence and Safety
The Hospital benefits from the rare advantage of dual certification: ISO 15189 accreditation by COFRAC (French accreditation committee, no. 8-4195) and accreditation by the American Joint Commission, a prestigious international standard. Its excellence is grounded in cutting-edge technology, such as incubators equipped with the EmbryoScope+ time-lapse system guaranteeing an optimized embryo culture environment, or the RI Witness system ensuring egg security and traceability via RFID chips.
AIVF: ART’s AI Revolution
Spectacular, Scientifically Proven Results
By using AIVF, the American Hospital of Paris is radically transforming outcomes in assisted reproductive technology, with a considerable impact on patients. The average number of cycles needed to conceive has fallen by 53%, from 3.4 cycles with traditional methods to 1.6 using AIVF. This improvement has substantially increased the chances for success, in particular for women over 38.
AIVF has been deployed in 40 clinics in fifteen countries, and has been harnessed to treat more than 150,000 embryos, benefitting more than 10,000 patients worldwide.
A Global First: IA for Genetic Screening
AIVF introduced the world’s first artificial intelligence capable of identifying aneuploid embryos (an embryo with a chromosomal anomaly) with 85.2% accuracy. It can also score and classify embryos based on their implantation potential, and predict each couple’s individual chances of achieving pregnancy.
A Revolutionary Approach to Patients
AIVF lets couples track embryonic development in real time thanks to a dedicated mobile app, which also provides personalized notifications at every step, secure messaging with medical teams and access to educational resources to better understand the process.
For couples, this technological revolution has lowered the number of required cycles by 53% and significantly decreased medical expenses and psychological stress thanks to shorter and more efficient patient journeys. Co-branded educational material is provided to couples throughout their journey, highlighting the pioneering role of the American Hospital of Paris and offering personalized support. The Hospital is a lead player in the French AI-powered ART landscape. It actively participates in international scientific conferences and its doctors and embryologists assume their role as opinion leaders.
Societal Issues and Demographic Impact
Fertility in France
AIVF addresses the current challenges of increasingly later first pregnancies, the rise in infertility and growing social and economic pressure on couples. Artificial intelligence offers concrete solutions with personalized treatments for each couple, optimization of the chances of success starting from the first IVF cycle, and significant reductions in the number of failed attempts and treatment cessation.
Accessibility and Equality
The American Hospital of Paris reaffirms its commitment to maintaining medical excellence accessible to all patients, reinforced mental health services, and total transparency with regard to outcomes and the innovations offered.
