The American Hospital of Paris Selects Three Start-ups

The American Hospital of Paris has chosen three start-ups innovating in healthcare from among 74 applicants, who will benefit from a program to accelerate the implementation of their projects.

"Prevention & Innovation" Request for Proposals

Prix Prévention et Innovation

The ambition of the American Hospital of Paris is to promote the best digital tools in prevention while sharing its expertise in preventive healthcare with the winning companies.

The American Hospital of Paris chose the start-ups Akuty Care, BBalance and Axelife following a request for proposals launched on September 26, 2023. The winning companies will participate in a six-month project acceleration and support program starting in January 2024:

  • BBalance is an innovative digital therapy solution designed to prevent falls and promote independence, to help seniors age comfortably.
  • Akuity Care detects and monitors signs of depression by identifying vocal biomarkers using novel AI algorithms.
  • AXELIFE revolutionizes cardiovascular assessment and prevention with pOpmètre, a non-invasive and non-operator-dependent European Class IIa medical device that measures arterial stiffness.

Candidates had to meet several criteria:

  • The solution had to be already designed, or at least in the prototyping stage, in order to allow a feasibility study or POC;
  • The solution had to address prevention in a new, useful and distinctive manner;
  • The start-up had to be motivated to develop and roll out its solution, with a view to strong growth and wide-scale market implementation.

A Comprehensive Support Program

A program launched this month will enable the selected start-ups to gain a better understanding of the Hospital’s strategic and operational context, of the accessibility of the French healthcare market and of the associated economic models and current trends.

They will also meet business experts from within and outside the Hospital to facilitate networking and company growth. After the first three months, the team in charge of the request for proposals will choose one or more start-ups to test their solution in one of the existing experimentation areas at the American Hospital of Paris.

This initiative is one of many prevention-oriented programs launched in recent years by the American Hospital of Paris. These include the Check-Up Center, which has been promoting prevention through health check-ups since 1991.
